Local Fibre brings people together to sew, mend and repair, and gives donated sewing machines a second life with people who need them.

Sewing Machine Repair Programme

Good sewing machines too often end up in storage or landfill, while people who want to sew can't afford one. We collect donated machines, service them, and rehome them with individuals and community groups across Auckland.

What we do

Making, mending and keeping textiles in use

Local Fibre is a community-driven creative initiative that brings together people who love to make, mend, and connect, and keeps textiles and sewing machines in use instead of in landfill.

Social sewing

Relaxed sessions where makers of every skill level bring their own projects, share tips and enjoy good company.

Fabric swap events

Bring the fabric, yarn, haberdashery and patterns you no longer need, and take home something new to you, keeping textiles in use and out of landfill.

Machine repair & rehoming

Donated sewing machines are serviced and given to people and community groups who will put them to use.

Social Sewing - Titirangi

Spend a creative afternoon sewing, mending, and making with Local Fibre at Titirangi Community House. This relaxed social sewing session is open to all skill levels - whether you’re bringing along a work-in-progress, tackling repairs, or starting something new. Bring your own sewing machine, or make use of the sewing machines and overlocker available. A selection of sewing tools and notions will be provided, and there’ll be plenty of space to share ideas, learn from others, and enjoy sewing in a supportive community setting. Come for the sewing, stay for the great chat! Date: Saturday 30th May Time: 1-4pm Location: Titirangi Community House - 500 South Titirangi Road, Titirangi Cost: Free - with a koha welcome to help support this and future Local Fibre events.

Join us for Fibre & Friends, a full-day celebration of creativity, community, and conscious making. Bring along your own projects and connect with fellow makers across all skill levels and disciplines – whether you're into sewing, knitting, mending, embroidery, crochet, or just curious to learn. It's a chance to share ideas, pick up new skills, and be inspired by others in a relaxed, inclusive space. You'll find dedicated tables hosted by skilled creatives, a community upcycled haberdashery (koha-based), and plenty of tea, coffee, and good chats. This is a zero-waste-friendly, BYO lunch event with koha entry.
